GOLDEN HOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION | JAMIE & CODY
“Lost – yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset, two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond minutes. No reward is offered, for they are gone forever.” – Horace Mann
Golden hour engagement sessions are some of my absolute favorite sessions to do, hands down. The dreamy golden light against an epic PNW backdrop is something you just cannot beat. Add a couple that is madly in love and you have yourself a triple threat my friends. That in mind, I was super excited when Jamie and Cody contacted me to photograph a special time in their life and expressed their interest in doing it at sunset. They have been together for many years and had plans to elope in a private ceremony at the courthouse in Bow, north of Seattle in the Skagit Valley, where they are both from and now live together. To celebrate, they wanted some special photos together since they weren’t having a typical wedding celebration. So, off I went to meet up with them in Bow overlooking Samish Bay just before sunset on a beautiful July day.
Being locals, Jamie and Cody knew the best spots along the beach, including a trail that led to an awesome spiral staircase that led down to the shore. I would have never noticed it if they hadn’t been there. It was perfect because the beach was secluded and let us have a few moments alone to snap some photos. J&C are huge dog lovers and brought their furkid Copper along for some of the photos. If you know me at all, you know my dogs are a huge part of my life and one of them just so happens to also be named Copper, so basically what I’m saying is we had a blast together, right off the bat.
The light and scenery just kept getting better as the sunset progressed and we ended the session with some pretty epic shots. We watched the sunset disappear behind Anacortes and the Olympic Mountains beyond it, and turn the sky into shades of different flavors of sorbet. It was pretty amazing.
To top it all off, as the three of us were wrapping up our session along the beach, we noticed another couple a little further down the shore from us and it looked like something exciting was happening. Sure enough, the man was on one knee…it was a proposal!! We cheered our congratulations from afar and waved to them as they embraced. What a great night all around! As I said my goodbyes to Jamie and Cody and packed up my gear, I saw the other couple heading to their motorcycle and decided to say hello and offer to take a few quick photos for them to commemorate the moment.
Stay tuned for another post with these photos, but for now please enjoy Jamie & Cody’s golden hour engagement session. 😀
